Moving Guide
Packing Guide
Pack smart. Move fast. Arrive intact.
General Packing Tips
- Pack one room at a time and label every carton with its contents and destination room.
- Start with items you use least — seasonal clothing, décor, books — well ahead of moving day.
- Keep packed boxes as close to the door as possible for efficient loading.
- Heavy items go on the bottom, lighter items on top — in every box, every time.
- The heavier the item, the smaller the box. Large boxes are for light, bulky things only.
- Secure every carton bottom with tape before filling. A loaded box with a weak bottom is a disaster waiting to happen.
- Have the right materials on hand before you start — tape, bubble wrap, markers, and the right box sizes.
Bureaus & Dressers
Do
- Remove anything that could break. Partially empty drawers and fill gaps with small wrapped fragile items like clocks or picture frames.
Don't
- Leave drawers completely full — the bureau becomes too heavy to move safely.
- Overload drawers — damage to the piece or its contents is likely.
- Tape drawers shut directly — tape can pull finish off wood surfaces.
Delicates — China & Crystal
Do
- Use small or medium boxes only — never large ones for delicates.
- Wrap every glass and cup individually in bubble wrap or unprinted newspaper.
- Seal and clearly mark every box containing fragile items.
- Line the box bottom with padding before placing anything inside.
Don't
- Use compartmentalized liquor boxes unless the compartments are sturdy cardboard with a padded base.
- Forget to mark which room each fragile box belongs to.
